§ 17.92.040. Design, construction and maintenance.

  • All signs shall be designed, constructed and maintained in accordance with the following standards:

    A.

    All signs shall comply with applicable provisions of the International Building Code and the National Electric Code, as adopted by the city, including separation requirements from electrical lines, at all times.

    B.

    Except for banners, flags, temporary signs, and window signs conforming to all respects with the requirements of this title, all signs shall be constructed of permanent materials and shall be permanently attached to the ground, a building, or another structure by direct attachment to a rigid wall, frame, or structure.

    C.

    All freestanding signs shall be designed and installed to withstand wind speeds as required by the International Building Code and shall be constructed to receive dead loads as required by the International Building Code.

    D.

    All signs shall be maintained in good structural condition, in compliance with all building and electrical codes, and in conformance with the code, at all times.

    E.

    No sign shall be erected, relocated or maintained in a location that obstructs or hinders free ingress to or egress from any door, window or fire escape.

    F.

    Signs that contain exposed bulbs and/or exposed neon shall be prohibited.

    G.

    Signs that contain reflective materials shall be prohibited.

    H.

    Signs that are made structurally sound by guy wires or unsightly bracing shall be prohibited.
